Day 48

So ends another barely tolerable Louisiana weekend. We were able to get out of town for a little while, but not out of state, hence the tolerability factor. No offense to the locals, but my wife and I are both from about as far from here as American born people can get; culturally, that is.

It's hard to fathom, but I think more highly of Huntington, WV, where I lived during the darkest time in my life, than I do of this place.

To anyone who reads this: don't let the Army send you to Fort Polk. Just don't.

Anyway, one positive factor about getting out of town was that the mall we went to had shoes that actually fit me and felt good for my long walks. My left foot still hurts, but I had been cramming into those narrow Nikes for a bit too long.

The walk felt short today though even though I went almost the same distance as yesterday. If that isn't an indicator of how well the shoes fit I don't know what is.

Strangely I'm not feeling any dread about going back to work tomorrow and reassuming my role as peon. I'm sure everything will go back to being as chaotic and unruly as before, but I'll at least know inside that for a brief moment in time things ran ever so slightly smoother.

Day 48: 5+ miles in 95 minutes, including 4 minute CD.

Oh, and the scale was nice to me this evening.
